Debate
Our club teaches the background, outline and preparation needed for two forms of debate: Lincon Douglas and Team Policy. Students will need to work on writing their cases and strengthening their arguments throughout the year. They improve their logic, research and presentation skills, as they work through revising their presentations. Students also learn to look at issues from numerous angles, listen carefully, think on their feet, and argue graciously.
Lincoln Douglas (Value) Debate
Lincoln Douglas is named after the famous debate between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas. In this style of debate, philosophical and moral values are explored and defended. One debater affirms the resolution while another opposes it.
Team Policy Debate
In Team Policy Debate or TP, a team of two debaters works together to propose a specific plan in support of an assigned resolution. The other team of two debaters opposes the proposed plan and thereby the resolution. This form of debate simulates argumentation in a legislative body.
For both forms of debate, our club adheres to the Debate Rules, Resolutions and guidelines as set forth by NCFCA.
